At our weekend at Wendy's LaRee shared with us this little backpack that she had adapted to hold 3x6 cards. I thought it was a perfect idea for an end of the year teacher gift and I copied one using Kiwi Kiss accents instead of the Riding Hood Red. I also added stamped images from Stampin' Up!'s Cheap Talk stamp set. I really like how the stem to the pear can be the flower stem as well and that is how I used it here.
This backpack was make from an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of CS scored along the bottom (8 1/2" side against the top of the cutter) at 1 1/2" and scored on the sides (11" side along top of cutter) 3/4", 1 1/2", 5 1/4", 6", 6 3/4", 10 1/2". Trim off the small flap from the bottom to the first score line. Cut along 1 1/2" line to the score line, also 5 1/4" and 6 3/4" to create the bottom of the backpack. The top was create with a Top Note Die using the Big Shot, Score this pice at 1 3/4" & 2 1/4". I made one from Cardstock and one from Designer Series Paper and glued them together for more stability. Create the envelope pocket using the Big Shot die one from CS and just the top flap from Designer Series paper and glue it to CS envelope.
To create the backpack straps. Before assembling backpack punch holes in the back panel at the bottom corner and two at the top middle. Take 24" of ribbon and feed each end down from the inside top and to the back through the bottom holes. Glue ends into the bottom of backpack with sticky strip. Now adjust the ribbon so you have a loop at the top. Using Sticky Strip attach small flap of top note with sticky strip over ribbon look in the inside of the backpack so the loop is showing above. Now glue edges of backpack together as well as the bottom and add velcro to hold it closed.
The colors I used are: Pink Pirouette and Kiwi Kiss inks as well as Pink Pirouette cardstock and Kiwi Kiss 5/8" striped grosgrain ribbon from Stampin' Up!
I did this backpack at a custom class for a group of ladies that work at KSU. If you want to have me come and do a custom class for you and your co-workers or family contact me today.
